EMW Prototype Evaluation:
The Modality Principle

Susan Connell
EDTEC 561
Fall 2003

I had two fellow students and two engineering types review my EET article in a sort of written "Think Aloud" fashion. They used a variety of Windows and Macintosh operating systems and browsers to check the article. The table below shows a summary of their suggestions along with my planned actions.

Planned Action
Applying the style guide to the entire first line not just the first letter.

Fix
Page load problems; required QuickTime; issues loading QuickTime graphic May have had an issue while the QuickTime video was loading. I am hoping to make the Flash movie work correctly, so that this will not be an issue, but I am not optimistic.
Used only a single source for content. Cited a second source as a general reference.
First sentence awkward and less than informative without reading further. Rewrite first paragraph.
Timing in second movie clip might work better if the audio narration and graphic did not start simultaneously.  Try to fix if Flash will let me.
Alpha prototype problem with audio narration starting automatically before the reader got to the second graphic. Recommended starting with a button or mouse-over. Fixed in beta version by converting to QuickTime with included movie player commands and instructions NOT to autostart.
Alpha prototype movie clip ended with a white screen - no image Fixed in beta version.
Keep the size of the "(((AUDIO)))" image larger as it moves towards the ear as it disappears before it gets there. Make a visual "Ping" when the audio image gets to the ear to show when it arrives. Fix
